Welcome to our new Research unit website. We are excited about the resources and information that is provided at this link. Over the next few months we will be expanding the resources that are available through this website to faculty, staff, students, and interested stakeholders about ongoing research, research opportunities, and protocols and formats of Maryland Agricultural Research Station. By early fall we hope to have reinstituted our Maryland Dividends program, which represents summaries of on-going research and education projects. It is these research projects that form much of the critical information that is used by our Extension educators and specialists in providing unbiased, research-based information to our stakeholders allowing them, in turn, to make informed decisions.
The diversity and level of research being conducted by our faculty, staff, and students is phenomenal and includes topics such as using plant products as nutraceuticals or biopharmaceuticals, understanding the molecular and biological basis for avian influenza and how that may impact Maryland’s poultry industry, the ecological impact of changing agricultural practices on habitat fragmentation and nutrient management, adding value to existing agricultural and horticulture crops or defining the production requirements of new crops, what crops can be used in Maryland for biofuels, and furthering our understanding and ability to produce safe and secure food systems.
Our purpose is to work with stakeholders, scientists, and government and non-governmental organizations to determine what are the needs for Maryland and its citizens in the areas of agriculture, food safety and security, natural resource conservation, and environmental science and management. We hope you visit our stations and our websites often and help us improve Maryland’s economic prosperity, quality of life, and its natural resources and environment.
